Embracing a Century-Old Legacy: Baseball's Roots in Chelsea

Over a century ago, in the vibrant twenties, the foundation was laid for Chelsea's baseball legacy with the establishment of the Cascades Baseball Club in 1920. Through the passing decades, baseball never ceased to be more than a sport; it was a unifying force that brought together families and friends to share in the joy of the game. In recent times, the passion for baseball has surged once again, becoming the heart of community life in Chelsea. The crowning jewel of this resurgence is the Russell Martin Baseball Field, breathing new life into the sport and inspiring a generation of youngsters. They take immense pride in playing on the same field as an MLB player who once called Chelsea home.

Programming that Fuels Passion: Engaging All Ages

Rally Cap (Ages 4-7)

Imagine a scene painted with little ones donning oversized caps, their laughter resonating across the field. Welcome to Rally Cap, a specialized initiation program designed for children aged 4 to 7. Here, the focus is on imparting fundamental baseball skills within a fun and engaging environment. Facilitated by skilled trainers from the Outaouais Baseball Academy, these sessions are meticulously crafted to ensure they strike a balance between enjoyment and structured learning. Parents play an active role too, given the need for individual attention for the younger participants.

Scheduled weekly on either Tuesdays or Wednesdays, the Rally Cap sessions are hosted at the iconic Russell Martin Baseball Field on Old Chelsea Road. Starting during the week of May 23rd and culminating in the week of August 8th, the program spans a total of 12 weeks. Each participant not only gains valuable skills but also receives a cherished T-shirt, a baseball cap, and practice balls.

Baseball Teams (Ages 8-18)

For those aged 8 to 18, Baseball Chelsea offers an all-inclusive experience where age and prior experience are no barriers to entry. Irrespective of whether one is a newcomer or a seasoned player, the coaches are there to guide and mentor. The journey commences with indoor pre-season training in April, transitioning to outdoor practices in May. The highlight, of course, is the regular season games, held from June to mid-August, followed by the regional playoffs. During the regular season, a typical week entails a home game and a practice session in Chelsea, along with an away game hosted at fields in Aylmer, Hull, and Gatineau.

Equipped for Excellence

As the anticipation builds, the right gear becomes crucial. In Rally Cap or part of the more seasoned teams, the essentials remain the same:

  • A trusty baseball glove
  • Sturdy footwear (rubber cleats or running shoes)
  • Baseball pants (grey)
  • An essential athletic protector
  • Batting helmet
  • The indispensable water bottle
